IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. has appointed longtime Automobile Mechanics’ Local 701 Business Representative and member Terry Kimmel as a Midwest Territory Special Representative. The appointment is effective April 1, 2023.

Kimmel, a 36-year Local 701 member, has been a Business Representative since 2012. He previously worked for UPS for 22 years, serving as Chief Steward and a delegate for contract negotiations. Kimmel also spent a year as a Trustee on the Local 701 Executive Board and has been active with the Guide Dogs of America/Tender Loving Canines for over 20 years.

“Terry brings decades of experience to our staff and a long reputation of fighting on behalf of our membership,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Steve Galloway. “From negotiating to organizing and everything in between, Terry knows what it takes to build union power and improve the lives of our members and their families. We welcome him onto the Midwest Territory staff and look forward to his contributions.”

Kimmel has completed many programs at the IAM’s Winpisinger Center, including organizing, collective bargaining, arbitration, negotiations, and Employee Assistance Program training.

Kimmel has also served as a delegate to the Chicago Federation of Labor, trustee to the Elgin Council of Trades, delegate to the Illinois State Council of Machinists, delegate to the Machinists Non-Partisan Political League (MNPL) Planning Committee, and delegate to 2012 and 2016 and 2022 IAM Grand Lodge Conventions.
