The Negotiating Committee for Dubuque, IA Local 1238, along with staff members from District 6, participated in the Negotiation Preparation for Bargaining Committees program at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in Hollywood, MD.

Local 1238 represents employees at Klauer Manufacturing, and produce steel and aluminum products for residential, agricultural and commercial markets. The current contract with Klauer expires March 31, 2019.

Recognizing that this promises to be a difficult round of negotiations, the committee strategized to change bargaining strategies, map a new direction for relations with the company, include better language in the contract and build greater solidarity within the bargaining unit.

“The week at the Winpisinger Center gave us the opportunity to assemble and develop a detailed strategic plan to secure the best contract possible,” said District 6 Business Representative Scott Webster. “This is one of the best programs offered to a negotiating team member. The committee worked hard, and they leave the center better prepared to advance the needs of Local Lodge 1238 union members.”
