The work of IAM Healthcare members will be featured in a Virtual Rally for Safe Staffing Standards this Thursday, July 13, 2023. This is the latest move in a national campaign to encourage the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to release a strong staffing standard for nursing homes throughout the U.S.

IAM Healthcare, a national movement of more than 10,000 health professionals within the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), has played an active role in the growing campaign to establish such a standard.

In March of this year IAM joined the AFL-CIO and other unions in sending a letter to CMS calling for the standard to be released. IAM International President Robert Martinez, Jr. also spoke out forcefully for “safe staffing to support America’s seniors, disabled veterans, and other patients who depend on specialized care provided by IAM Healthcare members.”  This was followed by AFL-CIO meetings with White House staff in which IAM Healthcare participated.

This Thursday, IAM Healthcare members will take this fight to the next level when Missy Zirups, a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and member of IAM Local W33 (District 5), speaks out about her first-hand experience in nursing homes. IAM members and supporters are invited to join the event by registering here: iam4.me/julyvirtualrally
